1. July 4th-marks the death anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. He was not even 40 when he died, but in that short span he changed the way Hindu philosophy and Hinduism was perceived both in India and outside.

2. US celebrates its 237th Independence Day today.

3. Egyptian chief justice "Adli Mansour" was sworn in Thursday as the country's interim president, hours after the army ousted incumbent Mohammed Morsi and put him under house arrest.

4. "Vandana Gandhi" became the first ever Indian woman to receive Dubai Government's coveted Emirates Woman Award for business excellence in June 2013.

5. Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Surakhsa Yojna, MGPSY, a pension scheme for blue-collar Indian workers would be launched in the Gulf next month. The MGPSY is aimed at helping the workers to save money for their retirement, their return to India and resettlement and provides life insurance cover against natural death during the period of coverage.

6. Defence Minister A. K. Antony Thursday left for China on a four-day official visit during which he is slated to have talks on Sino-Indian border and discuss regional and global security.

7. Shriniwas Patil, former NCP MP and a close associate of party chief Sharad Pawar, has been appointed the new governor of Sikkim.

8. President Pranab Mukherjee on July 4 conferred the National Youth Award 2011-12 on 27 individuals andone organization at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhawan. The award carries
a silver medal, a certificate and a cash prize of 40,000 rupees in case of individual awardees and 2 lakh rupees for voluntary organizations.

9. Douglas Engelbart, the U.S. inventor who was known as the father of the computer mouse died on 3 July 2013 at age of 88.

10. The 3rd edition of India International leather fair began today in New Delhi. Around 182 producers from 8 countries including India are participating in the event.

11. Pakistan on Thursday asked the International Monetary Fund for a $5.3 billion, three-year loan to boost growth in a bid to rebuild foreign exchange reserves, an energy crisis and a sliding currency.

12. Chris Martin, the fast Bowler of New Zealand has announced his retirement on 3 July 2013 from all forms of cricket.

13. Ace discus thrower Vikas Gowda clinched the first gold for India as the home team won three medals on the second day to make their presence felt in the 20th Asian Athletics Championships on Thursday.

14. Sabine Lisicki became the first German woman since 1999 to reach a Grand Slam final when she defeated Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 2-6, 9-7 on Thursday in a thrilling Wimbledon semifinal.

15. India reach the final of under-19 Tri-series cricket.
